Elon Musk has been slammed for his “scary” comments about Taylor Swift after she endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 US presidential election.
The 53-year-old billionaire took to X (formerly Twitter) on September 11 to post about Swift, hours after she revealed on Instagram who she was voting for in the upcoming election. The Grammy winner shared a photo of herself posing with her cat — Benjamin Button — in an apparent dig at Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance, as Swift captioned her message: “Childless cat lady.”
Musk, who continues to publicly support Trump and Vince, responded to Swift’s endorsement: “Well done Taylor…you win…I’ll give you a baby and keep your cats in my life. “
The viral post from the 12-year-old’s father has sparked outrage online, with many calling the comments outlandish. “This tweet just takes things to a whole new level of weird. It’s not even weird at this point, just completely disgusting,” one person wrote in response.
Another user said: “Elon responded to Taylor Swift tonight by saying he’s going to get her pregnant which is so weird and disgusting.”
“Cringe just called and asked you to stop, Leon,” responded a third, referring to how Trump mistakenly called the Tesla founder a “lunatic” during a recent rally.
Others responded to Musk’s apparent joke about Swift, as they explained how inappropriate his comments were about a woman. “No offense, Elon Musk, but no self-respecting woman would agree to this, and I’m sure Taylor Swift is a woman who might decide to have a baby in the future, with a man she truly loves. Has it for who she is. … and, yes … I’m a Taylor Swift fan,” one person said.
“Dude, if you want to talk to women, I’m here. But I’ll write the contract, not your lawyers. Obviously, they don’t know how bad it is,” added Bill.
“This is what you post when you have 197 million followers? Harris won the debate tonight, and now you want to give Taylor Swift a baby, which you have no interest in. Is that some kind of alpha male?” Dominance is what makes you feel powerful and virile. Does it work?” A third user wrote.
Immediately following Tuesday’s presidential debate between Trump and Harris, Swift took to Instagram to officially endorse the Democratic nominee.
“I’ll be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walls in the 2024 presidential election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she’s fighting for the rights and causes that I think need a fighter to champion them. .I think she is a steady, smart leader and I believe we can accomplish more in this country if we are led by calm and chaos,” the 40-year-old singer wrote in the caption. “I was so moved and impressed by her choice of running mate @timwalls, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
She also pointed to recent AI-generated photos “falsely endorsing” Trump for president — which the former president posted on his social media platform, True Social. The post included an image of Swift’s AI, dressed as Uncle Sam, encouraging voters to support Trump. Other photos show young women wearing T-shirts that read “Swifties for Trump.”
“It really sparked my fear around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift continued. “This led me to the conclusion that I need to be more transparent as a voter about my real plans for this election. The simplest way to fight misinformation is with the truth.
Swift has previously spoken about her political stance and the importance of voting. In September 2023, she called on fans across the United States to take action on National Voter Registration Day. “Have you registered to vote yet? I’m so happy to have seen so many of you at my US shows recently,” she wrote on Instagram, referring to her US tour concerts. with hints “I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I know how powerful they are. Make sure you’re ready to use them in this year’s election.
A few days later, the voter registration website Vote.org revealed that Swift had managed to break the site’s record number of voters. Nick Morrow — director of communications for Vote.org — specified that after the “Anti-Hero” singer’s post, his company’s website “averaged 13,000 hits every 30 minutes.”
Swift broke her political silence for the first time in 2018, after previously facing criticism for not being involved in major political moments in the United States, such as the Black Lives Matter movement and the 2016 presidential election. .
“As a country musician, I’ve always been told it’s better to stay out [politics]” Swift explained. “The Trump presidency has forced me to rely on myself and educate myself. I found myself talking to my boyfriend about government and the presidency and politics [then actor Joe Alwyn]who supported me in conversation. I started talking to my family and friends about politics and learning as much as I could about where I stood.
